Scottish National Arena
Scottish National Arena
The Scottish National Arena will be Scotland's largest venue. It will be the only
one of its scale in the UK built specifically to cater for live performances. It has been
designed by world-renowned architects Foster and Partners around a “performance bowl” with a
combination of fixed, tiered seats and flexible demountable seating systems so that a wide
range of events can be accommodated. Visitors can expect to enjoy an enhanced experience;
sightlines to the stage from each of the 12,500 seats will be superb and the acoustics will
be of the highest standard.

Fixed seating will wrap around the stage, rising higher to the front to optimise the balance
between viewing angle and distance from the stage. This gives the auditorium its distinctive
sloping appearance. With the use of lighting and drapes, the Arena can be “shrunk”, creating
an environment that will be ideal for smaller events. The Arena will complement the existing
buildings on the site. It will be characterized by a 40 metre-high façade, clad in a
translucent material that can be lit at night and carry projections of patterns, images or
logos to change its appearance to suit individual events. The roof of the Arena will be
spectacular, spanning 120 metres in a shallow dome of diagonally latticed steelwork.
